A couple weeks ago we talked about the Inerrancy of the Bible in our Sunday school class. The Bible is under attack on many fronts and one of them is that the words that are written there contain errors. We believe that this is not the case, but that the Word of God is without error. In fact the very first statement in our churches statement of faith speaks to this:
1. The Word of God. We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of The Holy Spirit and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

There are a number of Bible verses that we turn to when this topic comes up. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that all Scripture is God-Breathed. Yes the Bible was written by man’s hand, but it wasn’t his words he put down, it was as guided by the Holy Spirit ( Galations 1:12 ). These attacks on the Inerrnacy of Scripture are nothing new. In fact there was a summit of evangelical leaders that got together in 1978 with the purpose of addresses this topic. They met in Chicago and thus this statement came to be called The Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy. The follow is a short statement from them that covers this topic. They produced more that this statement and it would be well worth the readers time to read the complete statement that was produced.

A Short Statement

1. God, who is Himself Truth and speaks truth only, has inspired Holy Scripture in order thereby to reveal Himself to lost mankind through Jesus Christ as Creator and Lord, Redeemer and Judge. Holy Scripture is God’s witness to Himself.

2. Holy Scripture, being God’s own Word, written by men prepared and superintended by His Spirit, is of infallible divine authority in all matters upon which it touches: it is to be believed, as God’s instruction, in all that it affirms: obeyed, as God’s command, in all that it requires; embraced, as God’s pledge, in all that it promises.

3. The Holy Spirit, Scripture’s divine Author, both authenticates it to us by His inward witness and opens our minds to understand its meaning.

4. Being wholly and verbally God-given, Scripture is without error or fault in all its teaching, no less in what it states about God’s acts in creation, about the events of world history, and about its own literary origins under God, than in its witness to God’s saving grace in individual lives.

5. The authority of Scripture is inescapably impaired if this total divine inerrancy is in any way limited or disregarded, or made relative to a view of truth contrary to the Bible’s own; and such lapses bring serious loss to both the individual and the Church.

Some more Bible verses for you to look over as you have time.

2 Peter 1:19-20 —– Isaiah 8:1 —– Jeremiah 11:1 —– Revelations 22:18-19
